Tripod-Mounted Telescoping Camera Rig with Nested Sliding Modules
PUBLIC DISCLOSURE & TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION
Title:
Tripod-Mounted Telescoping Camera Rig with Nested Sliding Boxes and Counterweights
Inventor:
Samir Eltom
Date of Disclosure:july 5 /2025
🔹 ABSTRACT:
This invention is a modular, tripod-mounted camera rig that allows extended horizontal movement of a mounted camera through a telescoping nested box system. The system comprises three open-top rectangular boxes—C inside B inside A—wherein the camera slides side-to-side across a total distance of up to 5 meters, all without requiring any ground tracks. The outer box (Box A) remains mounted on a tripod. The system includes counterweight attachment points on both ends of Box A to maintain balance during lateral extension, similar to a jib or crane.
🔹 TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION
1. Overview:
The invention enables smooth lateral motion of a camera rig across a wide range (up to 5 meters) using a nested, telescopic motion design, supported entirely from a stationary tripod or stand. Unlike conventional sliders or dollies that require floor tracks, this design uses a series of nested sliding modules mounted above ground.
2. Structure:
• Box A (Outer Box):
-
The largest and heaviest frame, approximately 1 to 1.5 meters wide.
-
Made of rigid materials (e.g., aluminum, carbon fiber).
-
Mounted on a tripod or fixed stand.
-
Internally houses Box B on internal rails or wheels.
-
Includes designated counterweight attachment points at both the left and right ends, designed to hold weights of 2.5 to 5 pounds, improving balance when the system is extended laterally.
• Box B (Middle Box):
-
Slightly smaller than Box A.
-
Mounted on wheel-based or rail-based tracks inside Box A.
-
Slides left and right within Box A.
-
Contains Box C.
• Box C (Inner Box):
-
The smallest module.
-
Holds the camera and moves inside Box B.
-
Designed with smooth gliding rails or wheels for precision control.
-
All three boxes are open at the top to accommodate camera mounting and free movement.
3. Motion and Function:
-
The camera in Box C moves horizontally within Box B.
-
Box B moves within Box A.
-
The combined sliding action provides a total camera travel distance of up to 5 meters from left end to right end.
-
Box A remains stationary on the tripod.
-
Counterweights are mounted on each side of Box A to counterbalance the extended weight and prevent tipping or instability.
4. Optional Features:
-
Locking magnets or clamps at terminal positions.
-
Collapsible versions for portability.
-
Modular extensions for different setups.
-
Motorized sliding modules for remote tracking.
-
Integrated spirit level and friction control.
🔹 CLAIMS (Suggested for Filing)
-
A camera rig comprising three nested rectangular boxes wherein:
-
A smallest box (Box C) slides within a middle box (Box B);
-
The middle box (Box B) slides within an outer box (Box A);
-
The outer box (Box A) is mounted on a tripod or fixed stand;
-
The total lateral movement achieved by the camera exceeds four meters without using ground rails or floor-based tracks;
-
Wherein the outer box includes designated left and right attachment points for counterweights between 2.5 and 5 pounds.
-
-
The rig of claim 1, wherein the motion of Boxes B and C is achieved through internal wheel-based or rail-based systems.
-
The rig of claim 1, wherein each box is open from the top to allow unobstructed mounting and movement of the camera.
-
The rig of claim 1, wherein the rig is modular or collapsible for ease of transport and setup.
-
The rig of claim 1, further comprising stabilizing extensions or outriggers to prevent tipping during maximum lateral extension.
-
The rig of claim 1, wherein the counterweight attachments comprise side arms, hooks, or sleeves to hang sandbags, adjustable weights, or tension-balanced weights.
